To Practice Yoga You Need 4 Things:

  • Guidance

  • Motivation

  • Application

  • Support

What Is Yoga: For some it is a simple set of health and fitness exercises, for others it is a profound and comprehensive spiritual path. Between these two points is a diverse world of approaches, techniques, perspectives and traditions; commonly including the practices of asana, pranayama, relaxation, meditation, mantra, action and lifestyle. There is no right way; there is just rich variety of opportunity and application. Through adventure and instinct we are drawn to this or that practice, this or that book, this or that teacher. This may be stimulating, fulfilling, frustrating or exhausting. Such is the nature of the seekers path. Through maturity of experience those who persist find that rare quality; authentic simplicity.

YogaLiving is a community ashram focused on the communication and promotion of the teaching of Atma Vichara (self enquiry) within a  context of general Yoga practice to promote well-being and positive living. It has evolved to provide a framework of guidance and support to those who wish to pursue this spiritual practice.

In the Yoga tradition guidance is given as to how deeper practice can best be approached. This is best expressed through the following invocation :

                    Satyam Sharanam Gacchami
I take refuge in the truth

Yogam Sharanam Gacchami
I take refuge in Yoga and its practice

Gurum Sharanam Gacchami
I take refuge in the teacher and the teachings

Sangham Sharanam Gacchami
I take refuge in the community of practitioners

The information on this site describes what this means and how it can be implemented  within the support of  independence, community and the pursuit of a mainstream life.
