Purpose

Vedanta is the timeless teachings of the Upanishads revealing who you are what this is and the nature of God. The Upanishads are the source. The purpose of retreat is to take time out from routine activities, be in like minded sincere company and have the opportunity to focus fully on this spiritual awakening in the presence of a teacher. Receiving instruction in a live setting through an established teacher who can guide and interpret brings the powerful current of this reality fully alive. The benefits are inspiration, expanded personal insight, peace, happiness and a renewed spiritual security.

Programme

Ten separate guided sessions provide powerful discourse, taught meditation and nourishing spiritual energies. Chanting from the Vedas establishes a timeless spiritual atmosphere and the prayer of Sri Rudram is performed each day. The content of the discourse is the transformative teachings of Advaita Vedanta drawing on the Upanishads and other important vedanta texts with interpretation and direct insight. The meditation is vichara, the vedantic practice of self enquiry and is expertly and accessibly guided. Participants sit in chairs or on the floor as they choose. Plenty of free time is included enabling people to roam in the gardens and grounds or to rest. Outside of the sessions silence is maintained throughout the weekend, enabling undisturbed quietness for sitting, relaxing and absorbing the teachings. A Q&A session is included as the final session. Private interviews with the teacher are available during retreat.

The teacher

The weekend is taught and led by Derek Thorne; a highly gifted, inspired and developed teacher, he leads YogaLiving supporting individuals towards Self realisation in everyday life.

The retreat is relevant for spiritual seekers from any background in life who feel drawn towards these timeless wisdom teachings. Either you are developed in this knowledge and are seeking further clarity to resolve doubts, or you have some experience in which you are developing or you have little experience but feel a passionate and compelling interest to be in these spiritual energies. The teachings are conveyed so that they speak to all with poignancy and meaning. Some background in meditation and the capacity to enjoy silence is expected.
